2017 Poem-a-Day Challenge: Week 3
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you’ve had a wonderful day feasting and celebrating with your friends and family. As you can see, I’m a bit behind with the Poem-a-Day Challenge. The poems are getting shorter (and somewhat sillier) as we go along, so I hope you enjoy at least one of them! Check back this weekend […]
2017 Poem-a-Day Challenge: Week 2
Today I’m sharing my seven poems from Week 2 of the Writer’s Digest Poem-a-Day Challenge. I got a little behind, so some of these weren’t written on the actual day of the prompt, but they were all written this week. Thanks for reading them! đ Day 6: Praise âWhere the Wild Things Areâ Glory be […]
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie
I’m 85% sure that I have read this novel in the past (I went through a pretty major Agatha Christie phase in middle school), but there’s this 15% of me that keeps thinking If I’d really read this book in the past, wouldn’t I have remembered the amazing ending?
Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris CleaveÂ
If you’re a fan of books like Atonement, The Book Thief, All the Light We Cannot See, or The Kite Runner, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It was suspenseful, emotional, and true-to-life, which, if you ask me, are three hallmarks of good historical fiction!Â
2017 Poem-a-Day Challenge: Week 1
Normally this kind of thing would scare me, but as I’ve written over the last five days I’ve been reminded just how much I really love to write poetry. Even in five days, the ten minutes or so I’ve been able to scratch out of my schedule to write have become a sort of creative lifeline.Â
14 People to Know
We’re one week in to the school year, and my last semester of graduate school starts this week (can you hear the Hallelujah Chorus in the distance?). So before things get too crazy, I wanted to pause and share my review of 7 Men by Eric Metaxas. This is a book I read several years ago after […]
Summer Wrap-UpÂ
Can you believe that summer is over? For most of the public schools here, students went back to school full time on July 31st. Even though that’s the day I had to report for pre-planning, our students don’t return until tomorrow. Which means tonight is the absolute last night of summer vacation! đŠ So, I […]
Goliath Must Fall by Louie Giglio
If you’re like me and you grew up going to church, it’s very likely that you’re familiar with the story of David and Goliath. And even if you didn’t grow up in church, it’s one of those Bible stories we all seem to know. Well, in his book Goliath Must Fall, Louie Giglio takes this […]
What is it About the Tudors?
When I was a kid, I read a lot of historical fiction geared towards young readers. One subject I remember reading about a lot was the Tudor dynasty–Henry VIII and his six wives. There was one book written from Elizabeth I’s perspective, one from Mary Tudor’s perspective, even one, I believe about Lady Jane Grey. […]
250 Books for Young Readers
It’s hard for me to believe that today is Book Fifty’s second anniversary! I’ve loved getting to share the books I’m reading with you all, and I’m so thankful to you for following along and offering me great feedback. In the spirit of celebration, today I have a huge surprise for you–two huge surprises, actually! I […]
