Loch Lomond and The Power of Place

One of the things I love about reading is that, often without meaning to, I find similar themes and ideas popping up in the texts I’m reading for pleasure and for work. Most recently this happened during my preparations for this year’s Spring Term trip to Scotland and my time planning and teaching the British […]

Abiding in Christ by Andrew Murray

Abiding Poems: Part 1

Often I process what I’m learning through poetry–here are my first three poems inspired by Andrew Murray’s book Abiding in Christ.

2018 November Poetry Challenge: Week 4

Well, everyone, I’m happy to say that I’ve made it to the end of November’s Poem-a-Day challenge! It’s definitely been difficult, but I managed to write thirty new poems over the course of a month. I’ll probably share another post later with all the things I’ve learned over the last thirty days, but for now […]

2018 November Poetry Challenge: Week 3

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, everybody! I’m here with seven more rough drafts of poems written off of prompts from the Writer’s Digest poem-a-day challenge. This week’s were difficult, and I think some of them are my least favorite of the month so far. That being said, I have beaten my record from last year, when I only […]

Here we go–round two of the 2018 November Poem-A-Day challenge. It’s been hard to write each poem within the 24-hour window, but I’m hanging in there. I hope you enjoy this next installment. Day 8: Poem that Hints at Something “Clickbait” What happens next will leave you in tears– will shock you– you’ll never believe […]

Last year during November I participated for the first time in Robert Lee Brewer’s poem-a-day challenge over at Writer’s Digest. If you enjoy poetry or a little creative challenge, it’s not too late to join in […]

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you’ve had a wonderful day feasting and celebrating with your friends and family. As you can see, I’m a bit behind with the Poem-a-Day Challenge. The poems are getting shorter (and somewhat sillier) as we go along, so I hope you enjoy at least one of them! Check back this weekend […]

2017 Poem-a-Day Challenge: Week 2

Today I’m sharing my seven poems from Week 2 of the Writer’s Digest Poem-a-Day Challenge. I got a little behind, so some of these weren’t written on the actual day of the prompt, but they were all written this week. Thanks for reading them! 🙂 Day 6: Praise “Where the Wild Things Are” Glory be […]

2017 Poem-a-Day Challenge: Week 1

Normally this kind of thing would scare me, but as I’ve written over the last five days I’ve been reminded just how much I really love to write poetry. Even in five days, the ten minutes or so I’ve been able to scratch out of my schedule to write have become a sort of creative lifeline.
