The Myth of Instagram

One of the fun things about writing this blog is coming up with creative ways to display and share my love of books. In my last post I wrote about how I’d been revamping the Book Fifty Instagram page. Today, I decided to share some other thoughts about Instagram in blog post format.

The Fiddler’s Gun

It’s been a long time since I’ve read one of those fiction books that makes you stay up past your bedtime reading. The Fiddler’s Gun is one of those books. The novel is set during the American Revolution, and it involves, among many other things, orphans, pirates, Redcoats, fiddles, and buried treasure. Sounds like a good story right out of the gate, if you ask me!

Passages: Snow Edition

Every now and then I like to find my favorite quotes on a given topic and share them with you. Since we’re in the midst of winter storm Jonas, I thought I’d share some snow quotes. It seems like every story that takes place in winter time has some lofty description of the snow. As […]

Monday Musings

Spending my Monday sharing a few of my current favorites with you–from Tolstoy to Hogwarts and everything in between!

A Rabbit Room Christmas

The Rabbit Room does all kinds of cool things, but one of my favorites is their annual gift exchange. Anyone is welcome to participate, and it’s basically a cross-country secret Santa.

The Irrational Season by Madeleine L’Engle

Every time I read another of Madeleine L’Engle’s Crosswicks books I find myself amazed at her talent. Somehow she is able to take the liturgical calendar and turn it into a thoughtful, rambling, cyclical book about faith, writing, and motherhood.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I’m so thankful for the kind words of encouragement you have shared with me over the last months. I hope you enjoy this time with your family and friends. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love     and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies […]

What do they teach them at these schools? (Textbooks Fall 2015)

The end of the semester is swiftly approaching, and I’ve forgotten how much I loved being able to add textbooks to my book list for the year. I think a few of these books will be really helpful later on in my program, and I think they even have some great information to pass on […]

A Circle of Quiet by Madeleine L’Engle

Author’s Note: This is an old review I wrote about A Circle of Quiet. I read it last November, and I thought it was appropriate to post here since I will be posting a review of another L’Engle book tomorrow.  November 7, 2014: Every now and then I will read a book that marks an epoch […]

Passages: Autumn Edition

In honor of all things pumpkin-spiced, I’ve decided to give you some of my favorite passages about my favorite season. Doesn’t Autumn just seem like the book-lover’s season? A chill in the air, a warm cup of coffee, a soft blanket, leaves tapping on the window. Ah, bliss!
